Barcelona have revealed that they have made an offer for Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.

While not announcing how much they have bid for the Spaniard it's believed to be in the region of £30 million.

Fabregas left the Spanish giants in 2003, at the age of sixteen, yet has made no secret over recent weeks of his desire to return to the Nou Camp.

Barcelona's director general Joan Oliver told the club's official website: "Everyone knows that Cesc wants to play for this club and everyone knows that we also want this.

"But there is a third major player, which is Arsenal.

"Any deal must go through them and June 1 was the beginning of the period of official negotiations.

"Until earlier there were informal conversations, but since yesterday these are formal - and the usual mechanism is to present a formal and concrete offer.

"So yesterday afternoon, we submitted a written bid to Arsenal."

Fabregas would be the second big name to join barcelona this summer after the Spanish club have already bagged David Villa for a cool £34 million.

Fabregas, who missed the end of the domestic season through injury has been in included in the Spanish squad for this summer's World Cup in South Africa.
