Eider Gudjohnsen Ready To Sign Barca Deal

Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen is on the brink of signing a four-year deal at Barcelona after passing a medical at the Nou Camp, the Spanish giants have already reached an agreement to sign the 27-year-old Iceland striker.

It is thought this season's La Liga and Champions League winners will pay a fee of £8m for a player that cost Chelsea £4m six years ago, in his spell at Chelsea Gudjohnsen scored a total of 86 goals in 263 Blues appearances.

With Andriy Shevchenko's £30m arrival pushing Gudjohnsen further down the Chelsea pecking order, the chance of regular La liga and Champions League football is too good an opportunity to miss with Barca keen to secure a direct replacement for Henrik Larsson, who quit to play in his native Sweden next season.

Barcelona, who clinched their second La Liga title in a row last month, have been on the trail of several strikers.

But their attempts to sign Thierry Henry from Arsenal and Diego Forlan of Villarreal have all been fruitless.

Barcelona captain Carles Puyol welcomed the club's latest signing ahead of Spain's World Cup opener against Ukraine on Wednesday.

He told Mundo Deportivo newspaper: "I've played against him and he's a great player. He's fast, quick, scores goals and could be really good for us."
