Brazil put in a fine performance against Chile as they secured a 3-0 win to set up a clash with the Netherlands in the last eight.

Juan, Luis Fabiano and Robinho all got on the score sheet as they cruised to victory and showed their intent to go even deeper into this tournament.

But the former champions didn't have it all their own way in the opening minutes of the match as Chile came out all guns blazing looking to make an immediate impact.

Suarez had a half chance as he fired a shot at Brazilian keeper Julio Cesar and sadly had nothing more to show from a very positive start to the match.

While Chile had started brightly Brazil were in complete control, and should have been awarded a penalty when captain Lucio was brought down by Contreras but play was waved on.

It took Brazil thirty four minutes to finally break through the defences of Chile as Juan header saw then take the lead.

The defender was left unmarked at the far post when Maicon delivered a corner into the box and he got a powerful head on the cross and Brazil were ahead.

Just four minutes later and the Brazilians were celebrating again as they had doubled their lead. Robinho had gone on a run down the left before passing the ball into the waiting Kaka.

Some poor defending from Chile allowed Kaka the space to pass the ball through to Fabiano who went round the keeper and found the back of the net.

Into the second half Brazil appeared to take their foot of the gas, but still managed a third as Robinho struck just before the hour mark.

Ramires had gone on an impressive run down the field before a precise pass landed at the feet of Robinho as he slotted the ball home.

But Chile did try to fight back and were almost rewarded with a goal of their own when Valdivia sent a ball over the crossbar while Suazo clipped the crossbar just minutes later.

Brazil had slowed down their pace and urgency but this didn't stop Robinho from coming close to a second on two occasions. the first saw an angled shot saved by Bravo before an offside decision didn't go his way.

Chile failed to bring the play that had got them to the knock out phase of the competition which was a disappointment but Brazil will now face the Netherlands in the last eight as they look to lift the trophy for a sixth time.
