Championship side Burnley sent Arsenal out of the Carling Cup thanks to two goals from Kevin McDonald.
Arsenal had the first chance of the game, Nicklas Bendtner forcing Brian Jensen into an early save but the striker fired straight at the keeper's legs.
Midfielder McDonald opened the scoring after just six minutes. Chris Eagles sent in a cross which keeper Lukasz Fabianski dropped the ball into McDonald's path. He tapped it in from close range.
Arsenal wasted several chances to equalise with Bendtner again firing straight at Jensen. He later turned provider, splitting the defence with a header to Carlos Vela but the Mexican striker failed to beat Jensen.
After the break Arsenal had a another good chance with Fran Merida finding his way past three Burnley defenders only to curl the ball past the post.
It was Burnley though who got the next goal, from McDonald again. On 56 minutes he found Eagles' throw and sent the ball into the night with the outside of his right foot.
Martin Paterson almost made it 3-0 soon after but he headed straight at Fabrinski.
Derby won last night's other quarter final beating Stoke 1-0 away from home thanks to a penalty deep into injury time from Nathan Ellington.
