An eight goal thriller including four goals in the last fifteen minutes saw Chelsea emerge as winners in their Champions League quarter final tie with Liverpool.

The result saw Chelsea win 7-5 on aggregate but there were some tense moments.

The blues led 3-1 after the first leg at Anfield leaving Liverpool needing to score at least three goals to progress. And it looked pretty plausible when Fabio Aurelio's free kick put them ahead after just 13 minutes and then just before the half hour mark a Xabi Alonso penalty, after the Spaniard was fouled by Branislav Ivanovic put Liverpool back in control.

Chelsea pulled one back after the break when substitute Nicolas Anelka's low cross was defected past Pepe Reina by Didier Drogba. Drogba almost got a second with a free kick but was inches wide.

Alex pulled Chelsea equal with a long range free kick after 57 minutes, meaning Liverpool now needed two goals. Frank Lampard looked to have all but killed off any hope though scoring with a close range finish from Drogba's cross after 76 minutes.

Liverpool were not finished yet though and Lucas Leiva got their third with nine minutes to go and Dirk Kuyt added another one minute later, heading in from Albert Riera's cross.

Just one more goal would have won it for the Reds but the next goal came courtesy of Lampard with just one minute of normal time remaining. The England midfielder converted Anelka's pass to end things level in the dramatic game.

Chelsea will now face Barcelona at Nou Camp in two weeks time who progressed after drawing 1-1 with Bayern Munich but winning 5-1 on aggregate.
