Chelsea's Petr Cech undergoes surgery

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has undergone shoulder surgery following the Czech Republic's World Cup exit.

Cech, 24, had delayed the operation until his country's dismissal from the world cup in Germany.

But a spokesperson for Chelsea said the two-hour surgery was routine and was required to clear up "minor problems" from last season.

Cech's agent was also reported as saying "The operation was successful. Petr feels well and will have a rest and intensive rehabilitation in the following weeks."

Cech, has been a key figure in Chelsea's back-to-back Premiership victories, and will now face a battle to be fit for the kick off of the new season on 19 August.

A statement on the official Chelsea website said: "Petr will be working with the Chelsea medical staff to be fit as soon as possible."
