Cristiano Ronaldo Looking For Goals

Cristiano Ronaldo hopes to end his goal scoring drought for Portugal as he aims to be the World Cup’s top scorer by the end of the competition.

It has been sixteen months since the Real Madrid midfielder found the back of the net for his country as he failed to score a single goal during Portugal’s qualifying campaign.

And that campaign was a difficult one as Portugal made it to the World Cup finals via the play offs with a win over Bosnia-Herzegovina.

But the former Manchester United player is confident that his record in front of goal will improve in South Africa over the coming weeks.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror he said: I want to explode at the World Cup. I am saving all of my goals for this tournament.

“It’s true that I haven’t scored for Portugal for a long time but this doesn’t bother me. I believe in me and in my team and I am sure that we can do well here.

“It would be fantastic if I could be top scorer and the best player at the World Cup, and I believe I can get better and better at this tournament. I want to show people what I can do and show them that I am still a great player.

“The most important thing is to get to the second round and if it’s as group winners, that would be better.  If not and we have to play Spain, there will be no need to fear them.

“Spain are one of the favourites for the World Cup, but we are not scared of anyone. We are going to play to win every game.”

However his desire to find the back of the net will have to wait a little longer as Portugal could only manage a 0-0 result in their opening match against the Ivory Coast.

However it was Ronaldo, who captained his side, who got the best shot on goal in the opening minutes as he blasted in a shot from thirty five yards which came off the post.
