David Beckham has been thanked by Arsenal star Theo Walcott for his support whilst building up his international career.
Fabio Capello brought Beckham's England career to an end without telling the former captain, despite Beckham having been present as the back room staff in South Africa.
Walcott is another player who has missed out on the World Cup in South Africa this summer and the twenty one year old has revealed that Beckham was on hand to support him through the disappointment.
Speaking to Sky Sports he said: David is one of those guys I have so much respect for and any young player growing up should look at him," said Walcott. "He is one of the perfect professionals in the game.
"He's a fantastic, experienced player with so many caps and it's great he wants to pass on his knowledge to help players coming through.
"David has been that special player who has always been there for me.
"The amount of e-mails he has sent and phone calls he has made to me throughout the summer has been fantastic. His words were very supportive.
"Every time I go away with England, I always sit next to him for dinners. And I have kept my e-mails just to wind up my sister, who is quite jealous Becks was in regular touch with me!"
Despite the World Cup disappointment for the Arsenal man he was part of Capello's squad that played Hungary at Wembley in mid week as the Italian looked to bring in younger talent to the England side.
