David Beckham plans to take advantage of a clause in his contract allowing him to buy a Major League Soccer team when his playing career is over.
He told the BBC: "I have the right to own an MLS franchise, which I will action immediately after I have stopped playing."
He added he is "committed to developing soccer in the United States, which is something I am passionate about" and said that his family will remain in LA.
If Beckham goes ahead with his plan, the MLS would partner him with a patron with major financial clout. He is likely to enter into a deal with his manager Simon Fuller.
It was also revealed this week that Beckham had to partly finance his time-share move to Milan. He said: "I've been able to help myself stay in Milan, if I can put it that way," said Beckham. "It's never about money, it's always been about the football."
AC Milan chairman Adriano Galliani told Italian television: "A lot of players show their affection just with words. David Beckham is one of the very few who has shown it with deeds."
"I won't cite any numbers, but I can say that the player has made an incredible economic commitment, paying a lot of money from his own pocket."
