Chelsea missed out on the chance to go top of the Premiership and had captain John Terry sent off in the goalless draw at Goodison Park.
Terry received his marching orders after a reckless challenge on Leon Osman in the 35th minute.
Chelsea were the first to go close in the game when Ashley Cole forced goalie Tim Howard into a high dive with his high volley.
Everton hit back though when Phil Neville drove low into keeper Petr Cech arms. Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini also missed the target with their headers.
Into the second half and Jolean Lescott could have won it for Everton after getting onto the end of a Tony Hibbert corner but Cech palmed it away in the 75th minute.
It was an uneventful game other than Terry's sending off but Chelsea will rue dropping points away for the first time this season.
