Fernando Torres has called Chelsea one of the biggest clubs in Europe and called his move to the London side a step forward in his career.

The final day of the transfer window proved to be full of excitement as Liverpool sold the star strike, who has not been on top form so far this season, for a record breaking £50 million.

The Spaniard signed a five and a half year contract at Stamford Bridge after struggling at Liverpool over recent months.

And now Torres believes that he can play at the level that is expected of him and is prepared for the challenge that lies ahead.

Speaking to Chelsea TV the striker said: "I'm sure I am doing one big step forward in my career joining a club like Chelsea.

"I just want to be at the level I'm supposed to stay. This is a great club, a real responsibility and everyone is expecting great things about me and I'm prepared and ready for the challenge.

"Chelsea are one of the teams I want to play for. They are one of the biggest teams in Europe and after that there is no more steps forward.

"This is the target for me as a player to play for one of the top teams in the world and I have to be very, very happy with that."

Torres now joins a strike force of Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka as Chelsea try to re-assert themselves in the Premier League - they are currently ten points behind leaders Manchester United.

And Chelsea’s spending didn’t stop there are they went on to buy David Luiz from Benfica for £21.3 million.

Torres is likely feature in the weekend clash with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
