Joachim Leow has revealed that Germany are ‘devastated’ by their shock 1-0 loss to Serbia yesterday.

Germany looked in good form during their 4-0 thrashing of Australia in the opening round, putting in the best display of the early matches, but saw their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages were taken a huge knock.

Speaking to the BBC he said: We had lots of problems," he said. "It was difficult to come to terms with.

"But I'm still confident we will go through. We have our fate in our own hands, and a good goal difference."

"Of course we are disappointed now, we are devastated by this loss, but we have got the resolve and we have got the will to go through to the next round.

"I don't think this is going to bog us down completely."

The Germany/Serbia matched was dogged by a referee who was rather over-zealous with his yellow card, with two going the way of Klose inside the opening forty five minutes which saw him given his marching orders from the field.

Despite being down to ten men Germany did push forward and had their chances to level the match, the most notable a surprising miss from the penalty spot.

Group D is now wide open as Germany, Serbia and Ghana are all on three points, while Australia languishes at the bottom of the Group without a single win.

Ghana and Australia’s match has just got underway, should Australia get their competition back on track and win all four teams will be locked on three points but should Ghana win they will top the group with six points.
