So for anyone who predicted that Germany wouldn't be a real force in the World Cup this time around then they were proved ever so slightly wrong last night as they thumped Australia 4-0 in an impressive display.
Preparation for the German side has been far from great as the future of manager Joachim Low is far from certain with the absence of experienced players such as Michael Ballack it was a young side that took to the field in Durban in their first group match.
But any doubts that there were about the German side were quickly dispersed as they took the lead after just eight minutes as Lukas Podolski smashed home a Mueller cross.
That so easily could have been Germany's second goal as Klose had had a shot saved by Mark Schwarzer just moments earlier.
But it was Germany all the way as they had sixty eight per cent of the possession through the course of the match and had eleven shots on target, compared to Australia's three.
Australia looked completely lost as the Germans tore through their defence time after time and a second goal in the twenty seventh minute from Klose saw Germany take complete control of the match.
The Aussie's did have a chance of their own in the seventeenth minute as Jason Culina headed a cross from Brett Emerton over the bar.
Into the second Australia didn't look any more lively as Germany continued to dominate play with some lovely play up front as they pushed forward time and time again.
And any hope Australia had of at least making it a competitive match all but disappeared as their most prolific goal scorer Cahill was given a rather harsh red card.
Down to ten men and Germany really did push home the advantage as Schwarzer had his goal peppered by shots as Klose, Khedira and Podolski all had chances.
Just after the hour mark and the German's found the back of the net a third time as Muller left his marker behind to belt home a shot.
A fourth came just two minutes later as Cacau tapped in a ball from Ozil and their 4-0 victory was complete.
Germany comfortably sit at the top of Group D, Ghana are also on three points after their victory over Serbia. Needless to say England desperately need to come top of Group C as we really need to avoid the Germans in the last sixteen.
