Harry Redknapp has revealed that he was happy with the performance from his players as Tottenham Hotspur got their season underway against Manchester City.

It was a 0-0 draw between the two teams but the London side was unlucky not to win the match as they were denied a couple of goals by City keeper Joe Hart.

Hart, who was chosen by Mancini over Shay Given, and he made saves from strikes by Jermain Defoe, Tom Huddleston and Benoit Assou-Ekotto to keep City in the match.

Gareth Bale also struck the post in what was a frustrating afternoon for Tottenham however Redknapp believes that he couldn’t have asked more from his side.

Speaking to Sky Sports Redknapp said: "He (Hart) was in great form. They’ve got two great keepers and the young kid had a great day today.

"We had so many chances in the first half, but we just couldn't beat him.

"The way we played, the intensity of our game, our passing, the way we moved the ball and the way we pressed them, I couldn't ask for more. We were fantastic.

"It was difficult to keep it up in the second half and they got more possession in the second half than they did in the first half.

"They overloaded a bit in midfield and had lots of people coming to get round the ball which made it more difficult for us and one or two of ours started to look a little tired."

Despite all of Mancini’s spending this summer it was Hart that made the big impression in the opening forty five minutes.

But Manchester City put in a better performance in the second half as they shared more of the possession and began to threaten the Tottenham Hotspur goal as Shawn Wright-Philips and David Silva both came close.
