Joe Cole's arrival with benefit Steven Gerrard according to Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson.

The former Chelsea star was brought to Anfield by Hodgson earlier this summer on a free transfer when the London club did not renew his contract.

Cole made his home debut this weekend when Liverpool kicked off their Premier League season looking to do better than last year's seventh but the match didn't go quite as planed for Cole as he was sent off for a tackle on Laurent Koscielny.

Despite this Hodgson believes that he will be able to get the best out of the captain now that Cole is on the field with him.

Speaking to the club's official website Hodgson said: "I don't think Steven has to adjust his game at all. I think he's more than happy to play in the position he played in.

"He's possibly happier and more influential in that position than when he plays as the one behind a striker or in an offensive midfield role.

"I think Joe's arrival at the club will help Steven to play in a position where I think we get the best out of him."

joe Cole will not play n the next three Premier League matches as Liverpool decided not to appeal the red card, however he will play in the Europa league tie against Trabzonspor on Thursday.

Liverpool's next three Premier League matches see them face Manchester City and Birmingham away and a home match against West Brom.
