Kenny Dalglish has hit out at Fernando Torres.

Anfield were left stunned at the end of last week when the star striker handed in a transfer request - which saw him sign for Chelsea for £50 million yesterday.

But in the aftermath of an exciting final day in the transfer window Dalglish hit back claiming that no player is bigger than Liverpool football club.

Speaking to The Sun Dalglish said: "It has happened a lot. People forget that.

"Players leave the club and players come in, though more have come into this club than gone. It's no different now. People move on.

"The most important thing is the club.

"More important and bigger than any individual, no matter who has been through it previously and who will in the future. The club is the club.

"I will never forget that and anyone who does is being a wee bit stupid and irresponsible."

With the £50 million, a transfer record in Britain, that Liverpool got for Torres two new strikers have been brought in, in the form of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, to help push Liverpool forward after a difficult first half of the season.

And Dalglish had nothing but praise for Liverpool’s new owners during this transfer period.

"The owners have been fantastic with their support in the transfer window. It is reassuring to supporters that they are really determined to get the club moving forward.

"They have shown that by signing Luis, who will add to what we have at this particular time."

Liverpool faces Chelsea at Stamford Bridge at the weekend.
