Carlos Tevez scored four goals to put Manchester United into the semi final of the Carling Cup after the win over Blackburn Rovers.
Rovers started lively with an early shot from Stephen Warnock forcing Ben Foster to tip over but United soon took charge.
Tevez broke the deadlock on 36 minutes, beating Aaron Mokoena to Ryan Giggs's cross and nodding home.
United doubled their lead just four minutes later when Tevez teed up Nani to fire past Paul Robinson.
Benni McCarthy came on after the break and immediately made his mark, getting past Geary Neville to score.
United restored their two goal advantage just three minutes later. Tevez was brought down inside the box by Martin Olsson and slotted home the resulting penalty.
Tevez earned his first hat-trick for United on 53 minutes. The play started with Ryan Giggs who sent a great pass to Anderson, who selflessly passed to Tevez who tapped it into the empty net.
Paul Scholes had a few chances in his first game since picking up a knee injury in September. The midfielder could only shoot wide.
Rovers scored again with just six minutes to go when Matt Derbyshire slotted in from McCarthy's pass and the two teamed up again when Derbyshire passed to McCarthy who made it 4-3 in the closing minutes.
Tevez got his fourth shooting from the edge of the box in injury time.
