Liverpool have picked up just a single point from their opening two games of the new Premier League season as they lost 3-0 to Manchester City last night.
James Milner made the perfect debut at Eastlands as he teamed up with Gareth Barry setting up the goal that Barry slotted home after just thirteen minutes.
The absence of Javier Mascherano in the midfield were all too evident as Gerrard and Lucas struggled to close the gaps and keep City at bay, the Argentinean allegedly refused to play as he is keen on a move of out Anfield.
There were no real clear chances for the rest of the half, despite Johnson being a constant threat on the City flank. Things got worse for Liverpool just after half time as Carlos Tevez doubled the lead.
James Milner was involved a again as his corner found Micah Richards who headed the ball in the direction of the goal for Tevez to knock it in from close range to put daylight between the two sides.
Great goal keeping from Joe Hart kept Liverpool from getting back into the match with a great treble save as a strike from Steven Gerrard come off hart to let Ngog and Torres both try to find the back of the net.
City completed their win in the sixty eight minute when a reckless challenge from Skrtel brought down Johnson in the box and the referee pointed straight to the penalty spot.
Tevez set up to knock in his second of the night and the games was beyond Liverpool's reach.
But the Reds continued to battle as Torres came close in the seventy first minute, unable to finish off what was a great turn around the defender while Ryan Babel almost scored with his first touch when he came of the bench.
A deflection from Hart saw the keeper record his second consecutive clean sheet.
