Manchester United booked their place in the quarter finals of the FA Cup with a convincing 1-4 win at Derby.
United started off strong with Darren Fletcher and Ji-Sung Park going close but keeper Stephen Bywater saved both efforts. Derby had chances too, Rob Hulse headed just wide and Kris Commons pushed Ben Foster into a low save with a free kick.
United were first to score though. With 29 minutes gone Nani got the ball on the edge of the box and sent the ball past Bywater with his right foot.
Ronaldo had a goal disallowed when Giggs sent Foster's quick throw out to him. he raced forward and hit the ball home. Referee Alan Wiley ruled that Giggs had touched the ball in the build up and the linesman ruled it off side.
Darren Gibson doubled United's lead a minute before the break. When Ronaldo's free kick hit the wall Gibson sent in a low volley from 20 yards. This too could have been ruled offside as Rafael Da Silva, in an offside position, had to hurdle jump over the ball before it flew past Bywater.
Ronaldo got his goal on 48 minutes heading Giggs corner over Derby's Gary Teale and into the net.
Derby pulled one back when a quick free kick from Robbie Savage found Commons who passed to Miles Addison, who headed home on 56 minutes.
United sealed the win on 81 minutes when Fletcher flicked the ball out to Danny Wellbeck who curled his shot past Bywater.
United will now meet either Swansea or Fulham in their quarter final game on March 7th.
