After an up and down couple of weeks for Manchester United the reds steadied the ship against Burnley with a 3-0 win to keep the pressure on Chelsea.

While the match was perfectly poised ay 0-0 at half time United were lucky not to have fallen behind as Burley could have taken the lead in the opening ten minutes.

Nugent broke free down the right hand side before getting the ball into the penalty earlier to the feet of Steven Fletcher.

With the United defence no where Fletcher couldn’t find the target as he sent the ball across the mouth of the goal and wide.

Similarly Manchester United couldn’t convert their chances as Nani forced a good save from Burnley keeper Brian Jensen and this was the closest that they came to a goal in the opening half.

More chances came and went for United at the beginning of the second as the Burnley defence stood firm as Rooney and Berbatov come close.

And it was Berbatov broke the dead lock as he finally found the back of the net after a great pass from Rooney.

After taking the lead United broke loose and a goal from Rooney and Diouf sealed a 3-0 win.

However if United were hoping for a slip from league leaders Chelsea then they were disappointed they produced an impressive display to thump Sunderland 7-2.

Despite having Didier Drogba away on international duty there was a goal fest at Stanford Bridge as Nicolas, Anelka, Frank Lampard, Michael Ballack and Ashley Cole all  made it onto the score sheet.

They still have a one point advantage at the top of the Premiership with a game in hand over closest rivals Manchester United.

Manchester City’s hopes of continuing to march up the table suffered a set back as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of a rejuvenated Everton.

Pienaar and Saha found the back of the net resulting in Roberto Mancini facing defeat for the first time as Manchester City manager.

City are back in action on Tuesday night in the league cup with a semi final tie against Manchester United.

Liverpool’s woes continued as they could only manage a 1-1 draw with Stoke after a late goal from Stoke denied them a much needed victory.

Rafa Benitez is missing his key trio Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Yossi Benayoun due to injury.
