Michael Owen could be out of action for three weeks after limping off during the Champions League match Wolfsburg at Old Trafford last night.
The striker managed just twenty minutes of the game before calling it a night due to a groin injury, a further disappointment was England manager Fabio Capello was in the stands.
Owen has been desperate to regain his spot in the England squad but this latest injury means he is likely to miss the match in Ukraine later this month.
Owen joined Manchester United this summer on a free transfer from Newcastle but has continued to struggle with injury since the move.
Alex Ferguson said after the match: "Groin injuries are difficult to assess, but it is maybe going to be 2-3 weeks with Michael.
"His fitness levels are very good, though, so that shouldn't be an issue and I don't think it will be too long.
"He felt his groin in training on Sunday and trained a little bit on Monday, but he had a rest on Tuesday and he thought he was fine."
Despite the loss of Owen it was a good night for Manchester United as they eventually saw off the challenge from German champions Wolfsburg.
The first half looked nervy from United as the defence looked shaky as Wolfsberg continued to push forward.
And it was the German's who struck first in the second half as they broke through to take 1-0 lead on fifty six minutes.
Hasebe crossed the ball into the penalty area for Dzeko to find the back of the net with a header to silence the United faithful.
But they didn't have to wait long to find something to cheer about as Ryan Giggs continues to roll back the years as he found the back of the net just three minutes later.
The free kick from Giggs was his 150th goal for his club. And he was involved in the second goal as his pass landed at the feet of Michael Carrick who put the ball passed Benaglio to take a 2-1 lead.
And there was more European success for Chelsea as a 1-0 lead over Apoel Nicosia was enough for a win as Nicolas Anelka found the back of the net.
