Paul Robinson has pulled out of England’s match against Hungary on Wednesday and has announced his retirement from international football.
Robinson made his debut for his country back in 2003 has had won forty once caps for his country but struggled during the Euro 2008 qualifications when Steve McClaren was at the helm.
Since joining Blackburn Rovers back in the summer of 2008 he did appear to be regaining some form as well as some confidence.
However he was overlooked by Fabio Capello when he picked his squad for the World Cup in South Africa this summer.
David James, Joe Hart and Robert Green were given the nod ahead of Robinson, however James and Green failed to impress in South Africa and Robinson was called up for Wednesday’s match.
Speaking to the Guardian Robinson said: I've taken the decision to retire from international football with immediate effect.
“Only now have I been able to make this decision as previously I have not been in contention or selected for the squad.
"As a professional who wants every chance to play football, I do not see myself as No3 or No4 goalkeeper. I find that role very frustrating. I haven't had the opportunity to be anything other than this in recent years.
“Therefore I feel it's in the best interests of myself and my club, Blackburn Rovers, that I concentrate solely on my club football. I wish the England team every success."
Blackburn Rovers begin the new Premier league season next weekend with a home match against Everton.
