England may now sport one of the strongest leagues in the world but the strength of the game within these shores is not reflected in any major achievement in international tournament since the famous days of 1966. The generation of professional footballers who now wear the shirt with the three lions have yet to progress beyond the quarter finals of a major tournament.

As the 2006 World Cup in Germany looms the quest gains in intensity as the millions of English people who have played and loved the game aspire to see their young men recognised as the most skillful on the planet.
