Manchester United took a huge step towards securing the title after a 1-2 win at Wigan thanks to a late goal from Michael Carrick.
Wigan started strong with Valencia getting clear after just two minutes but shot wide. United too threatened early as Dimitar Berbatov escaped Titus Bramble but Wayne Rooney headed off target from point-blank range.
After 28 minutes Wigan got the first goal from Hugo Rodallega. He brushed aside Nemanja Vidic and recovered to shoot low past Edwin van der Sar.
Rooney could have pulled United level two minutes before half time but he shot over from eight yards out.
Wigan threatened again in the first half stoppage time but Rodallega shot wide.
The second half saw United's impact weaken and after 57 minutes Ferguson brought on Carlos Tevez for Anderson and within four minutes Tevez had equalised. The Argentine turned in Carrick's shot, which was flying off target, with a great flick that wrong footed keeper Richard Kingson.
United had a penalty appeal dismissed when Christiano Ronaldo went down under a challenge from Maynor Figueroa.
United continued to pile pressure on the home side and four minutes from time found the winner. John O'Shea set Carrick up on the edge of the area and his 20 yard finish went high past Kingson.
United now only need one point from their final two games, at home to Arsenal on Saturday and the trip to Hull City on the final day of the season, to secure the title.
