Lyon's Gerard Houllier insists he is still keen to sign France striker Djibril Cisse from Liverpool.
Cisse, 24, will be out of action for several months as he recovers from a broken leg, suffered in a World Cup warm-up match against China.
Former Liverpool boss Houllier signed Cisse from Auxerre for £14m in 2004 but left before he seeing him play.
"We await his return to fitness, which could be around Christmas," reported the Sunday Telegraph.
Houllier said of Cisse that he came to England at his invitation, although circumstances were to dictate that Houlier had left as Cisse arrived.
Lyon were the favourites, along with Marseille, to sign Cisse for the new season, Liverpool hope Cisse could be playing again by November following a successful operation on the broken limb.
Chelsea defender Robert Huth claims he has agreed terms with Middlesbrough on a five-year deal which he expects to sign after the World Cup.
Huth has said that nothing has been signed due to a shortage of time but was confident it would happen in the next few weeks.
Huth has been linked with a move to Wigan and Everton, but should move to Boro after they agreed an undisclosed fee with Chelsea.
Tottenham boss Martin Jol has insisted that midfielder Michael Carrick will be staying at the club, despite an offer from Manchester United.
United had a £10m bid turned down on Friday and some newspapers reported the offer had now been upped to £14m, manager Jol told BBC Five Live Sport: that Manchester United put a bid in, we turned it down and that's it.
Carrick joined spurs from West Ham in 2004 and a series of impressive performances cemented his place in England's World Cup squad.
With Spurs building for the future the manager and club would be reluctant to part with their midfield star but with Mancher United able to offer him regular champios League football he may well opt for a move up north
