Ryan Giggs says he remains confident ahead of United’s Champions League quarter-final second leg clash with Roma at Old Trafford on Tuesday following Wayne Rooney threw the Reds a vital lifeline.

Ten men United managed the all important away goal with a superb strike from Rooney, even though Roma regained their lead, but with a vital away goal in the bag the Reds have cause to remain positive about the return fixture.

Talking to the clubs website Giggs said "I think the result is significant,"

Giggs said after the game "The challenge was there for us at half-time. A lot of teams would have folded, but we kept passing the ball and we were always confident. We rode our luck a little bit but overall we were really pleased with the second half performance.

United will be without Paul Scholes, who is suspended for the match after his first-half red card, but with other players returning to boost United’s squad and ease the number of injuries for boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

The squad now has to play its part following the injuries and suspention, against Roma Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came in. Louis Saha and Darren Fletcher have both returned, with Flecher the most likely to replace Scholes.
