Steven Gerrard Believes England Still Need To Prove Themselves

Steven Gerrard believes that England are still some way from proving that they are a good team.
England got their Euro 2010 qualifying campaign underway on Friday (3rd Sept) with a 4-0 win over Bulgaria and followed this up last night with a confident 3-1 win over Switzerland.
But despite sitting top of their qualifying group Gerrard believes they need to perform well at the Euro 2012 an not just in the qualifying process.
Speaking to The Sun after the match he said: "Two wins don't make you a good team. What makes you a good team is qualifying for a tournament and then doing well when you get there.
"I've said all along that it's going to take two more years before we'll be able to say that England are back. The first-half performance was everything the manager asked for.
"We got a bit lazy in the second half, but the result was never in doubt. People have been talking about how Switzerland don't concede many goals and are a difficult team to break down - but we ripped them apart."
It's been a tough couple of years for England on the international stage as they failed to qualify for the Euro 2008 tournament, which Spain went on to win.
And despite a confident series of matches running up to the World Cup the team failed to perform in South Africa earlier this summer.
But Gerrard praised the younger members of the team: "The young players who have come in have done well and freshened up the squad.
"I'm getting old now so it's good to have some young players around me doing my running."
