Terry injury concern for England

1 month ago 09th Oct 10:51

Captain John Terry is an injury doubt for the World Cup Qualifier against Kazakhstan on Saturday.

Terry, who is struggling with a back injury, failed to complete training on Wednesday, but playing some part in the session is a major improvement on Tuesday, when he sat out the whole day.

Terry suffered a recurrence of the back injury in Chelsea's Champions League tie against Cluj last week and needed more treatment in Saturday's match against Aston Villa.

Either Matthew Upson or Joleon Lescott may come in to partner Rio Ferdinand in central defence in Terry's absense.

If Terry is ruled out, Ferdinand is also likely to be given the chance to lead out his country again.

Striker Emile Heskey also sat out training with a back injury but should be fit for Saturday.

If fit, he is again expected to partner Wayne Rooney in attack, although Capello also has the recalled Peter Crouch as an option up front.

Ashley Cole, Wes Brown and Stewart Downing all returned to training having missed the previous day's workouts.
