Premiership News Blackburn sign Roberts from Wigan

Blackburn have signed Wigan striker Jason Roberts on a four-year deal, the 28-year-old, was the club's top scorer last season with 14 goals, said he turned down a new contract to stay with the Latics in May.

Roberts main motivation for joining Rovers was to play in Europe regularly, with the club being in the Uefa cup this year it would be the first step in realising his ambitions. Roberts, Blackburn's second signing followed the capture of former Charlton and Everton forward Francis Jeffers,

Roberts joined Wigan in January 2004 from West Brom for £1.4m.

The Grenada international had been the subject of interest from Turkish side Besiktas earlier in the summer.

Wigan boss Paul Jewell said the move was right for both parties.
