Football fans love Paul Gascoigne for what he achieved and he is greeted with warmth and affection wherever he goes - for the footballer he was. In 1996 he set the European Nations cup alive with a beautiful goal against the Scots and led the destruction of Holland.
The players who donned the England shirt in every subsequent tournament knew that we were more than good enough, that one of us had played with the magic of a talent expressed with confidence, that our game and our way was as good as any other and an Englishman could again be the greatest player of his generation. The players now wearing the England shirt grew up watching an England player being the best and taking them on and battling all the way to victory. Glory days then and glory days due now. Come on England.
