Leicester City have confirmed Danny Drinkwater was excluded from the latest England squad because of a "minor groin injury".
The Foxes midfielder was a surprise omission from interim boss Gareth Southgate's squad on Sunday night as the Three Lions prepare for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.
Southgate revealed that Drinkwater, who he saw play the full 90 minutes in Leicester City's 0-0 draw with Southampton on Sunday, was "unavailable through injury".
The club confirmed on Monday morning that Drinkwater had missed out because of a groin injury.
Jamie Vardy is the Premier League champions' only representative in the England squad for the matches against Malta at Wembley on Saturday, October 8 and in Ljubljana, where they face Slovenia on Tuesday, October 11.
