Owen Coyle is hopeful Blackburn will confirm the signing of former Manchester United and Sunderland defender Wes Brown in the coming days.
The 36-year-old has been training with Blackburn since leaving the Black Cats in the summer but a deal was delayed by a calf injury sustained during pre-season.
Brown has overcome the problem and is now set to resume his career with the Sky Bet Championship club.
"Wes has obviously been training with us and is now fully fit," Coyle said following Blackburn's 1-0 EFL Cup defeat at Leeds.
"He's been outstanding. He's a constant professional - his attitude has been exemplary around the training ground with the young players, helping and encouraging them.
"He's trained the last four or five weeks, played a number of under-23 games and done very well.
"We'll have a chat tonight and hopefully we might have some positive news on that in the next couple of days.
"He would certainly add to our group. He's shown his quality in the games he's played and I think he's still got a lot to offer as a player.
"The important thing with Wes is making sure he is fully fit, because when he is he's a wonderful player."
