Mike Phelan is ready to allow some of his Hull squad the chance to recharge their batteries as he makes changes for the tie with Stoke.
Phelan has struggled for numbers since taking charge from Steve Bruce over the summer due to a large injury list.
The former Manchester United assistant is hoping to use Wednesday’s trip to the Bet365 stadium to rest some of his players, who have played most games this term.
Ryan Mason is likely to get the chance to start, while loanee Dieumerci Mbokani is also in line to feature from the off after winning a penalty in the loss to Arsenal at the weekend.
"We took on Exeter with a side made up mainly of players who had been involved the previous Saturday," Phelan told the club's official website.
"Now we have a group of players who need games. We have six new players compared to when we played in the last round, plus a few others who need games and we'll pick a team to face the challenge of Stoke.
"The players have committed themselves really well up to this point, but we have to have a look at them physically now and try and recharge.
"It's down to me now as to who starts."
