Pochettino confirms Kane setback

Mauricio Pochettino is refusing to speculate on how long Harry Kane will be out for after confirming he has damaged ankle ligaments.

The Argentine confirmed the worst fears of Tottenham fans at his press conference on Tuesday when he revealed Kane had sustained a serious ankle injury during Sunday's 1-0 win over Sunderland.

Reports earlier on Tuesday had suggested last season's top-scorer could be out for as long as two months, meaning he would miss some huge Premier League and Champions League matches for Spurs.

When asked how long he expected to be without Kane though, Pochettino kept his cards close to his chest.

"We will continue to assess him every day but don't want to put a time frame on it," Pochettino said.

Meanwhile, there was better news on Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier, both of whom also picked up problems during the win over Sunderland.

Pochettino says the club are monitoring the midfield pair still but are confident they will be fit to play this weekend at Middlesbrough.

"We're not expecting any big issues," he added.
