Bernie Ecclestone has revealed that 9th December will be the date that the future of the British Grand Prix will be decided.

Donnington Park was expected to become the home of the British Grand prix earlier in the season but has been ruled out after failing to prove that they had the funding required.

Speaking to BBC’s 5 Live’s Sportsweek the formula 1 chief said: "At the moment there is no British Grand Prix."

"The meeting on 9 December is when it would be taken off the calendar. If there's no contract in place, there won't be a British Grand Prix."

However Silverstone could still host the event next season but financial terms are still to be agreed.

If there was no British Grand Prix next season it would be a major blow to F1 fans as well as a huge disappointment for British motor sport.

Two British F1 champions, in the form of current champion Jensen Button and 2008 winner Lewis Hamilton join forces next year at McLaren.

Button led the standing all season and finally got his hands on the title with Brawn GP also winning the Constructors Championship.

Despite rumours circulating that Button was all set to stay at Brawn he completed his move to Mclaren earlier this week to join Hamilton.
