Sebastian Vettel has revealed that he wasn't thinking about winning the Formula 1 world title in Singapore yesterday.
The German had the chance to wrap up the season with five races yet to go but was denied as Jenson Button finished second.
It was a ninth win of the season for Vettel as he led from pole to flag under the lights in Singapore - but he was just a single point short of taking a second consecutive title.
A great start from Button saw him power past Mark Webber to take second spot - a position he held for the whole race - while Webber finished in third.
Vettel now just needs a single point from the reaming five races to take the title for a second time.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the race Vettel said: "I wasn't thinking about the title in the race.
"I had made it quite clear beforehand that it wasn't important to know where other people were.
"Obviously I was given the gaps to Jenson, and then the race order at the end, so crossing the line I didn't know whether I had done enough or not.
"It was a little similar to what happened in Abu Dhabi last year (when he won the title). I didn't know in which position people had to finish.
"For Japan, I'm obviously smart enough to work it out myself now!"
Button is now in second place on 185 points, just one clear of Fernando Alonso in third while Mark Webber is in fourth with 182.
