Alonso relishing US return

Fernando Alonso is looking forward to this weekend's US Grand Prix as he aims to bounce back from a disappointing race at Suzuka.

The Spaniard finished 16th in the Japanese Grand Prix last time out, with McLaren team-mate Jenson Button two places behind in what was a dreadful weekend for the Woking-based team.

The Formula One roadshow has now moved on to Austin, Texas for the 18th race of 21 this season, with the main focus on the battle for the championship between Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.

However, McLaren are looking to save some face after their Suzuka nightmare and, while not expected to threaten the podium, the two experienced drivers will be out to prove that they are not as bad as their Japanese experience would suggest.

Alonso suffered a puncture on lap two in the 2015 US Grand Prix but weaved his way through the field to end up 11th, and he is clearly big fan of the venue.

"It's great to go back to North America," her said. "Austin is a really cool place and I'm pleased we're returning there after a bit of uncertainty following last year's event.

"It's a Grand Prix in which you never really know what to expect, and I would say that last year I had one of my favourite races because, despite having a puncture on lap two, we were able to push and make progress through the field, which was hugely satisfying from behind the wheel."
