Alonso unsure of F1 future

Fernando Alonso says he is still unsure about his future after the 2017 season but admits the desire to win is still there.

The Spaniard is under contract with McLaren until the end of next season and has previously stated that the Woking-based marque will be his last in Formula One.

Whether or not he is offered a new deal with his present employers only time will tell but the 34-year-old is refusing to make any assurances that he would sign on the dotted line anyway.

"I'm 34 and I could go on for more years but it's all about motivation and willingness," he told Cadena Ser radio. "I'm just thinking about next year.

"We will see how I feel when the time comes, if I sign a contract extension."

Alonso has not won a race since the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix and is behind the wheel of an uncompetitive car that has no chance of challenging the top stars.

However, the two-time F1 champion has made it clear that the competitive juices are still flowing despite his lack of success.

"The hunger is always there," he added. "After one year and a half without being close to the podium, I have more motivation. I come out as a lion in every race."
