Bottas in Renault discussions

According to reports, Williams star Valtteri Bottas has entered into talks with Renault about a possible move for the 2017 season.

Bottas, who has been driving for Williams since 2013, is one of the most highly-rated drivers in Formula One and has been linked with a switch to Ferrari on numerous occasions.

The 27-year-old has endured a slightly frustrating campaign in 2016 and currently sits seventh in the Drivers' Championship, 84 points behind Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel.

Williams have not made as quite as much progression as they would have liked this term and the team are fifth in the team standings, recently being leapfrogged by Force India.

The Grove-based outfit are keen on activating a clause in Bottas' contract that will see him stay for another year but as of yet there is no movement on this matter.

Renault are now hoping they can persuade the Finn to join them in 2017 and, according to reports, initial discussions have taken place about a move.

The French manufacturer, who are expected to sign Nico Hulkenberg from Force India, are also said to be mulling over Kevin Magnussen, Jolyon Palmer and former reserve Esteban Ocon for the second drivers spot.
