Dennis sets sight on 2017

McLaren boss Ron Dennis feels the team are making good progress with their car for the 2017 Formula One campaign.

The Woking-based team have once again failed to trouble Mercedes at the top of the Constructors' Championship, with Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso struggling to compete this term.

With the chance of winning anything this season long gone, McLaren were quick to switch their focus to their car for 2017 in a bid to close the gap down on current frontrunners Mercedes.

Dennis has been pleased with the team's progress ahead of next season and hopes their hard work will be evident on the track in 2017.

He was quoted by Sky Sports, saying: "Our new engine is running on the dyno now and that's several months earlier than our engine last year.

“We are well advanced on the car and making really good steps. As everyone will have been telling you, the cars will be four, maybe five to six seconds faster, and I think that's when the great drivers will start to excel."
