Force India confirm Hulkenberg exit

Force India have confirmed Nico Hulkenberg will leave the team at the end of the season to join Renault.

Recent reports had suggested Hulkenberg would be leaving the Formula One outfit at the end of the campaign and this has now been confirmed by the team on Friday morning.

The German will end a five-year association with Force India and is now expected to sign a two-year deal with French manufacturer Renault, who have been keeping tabs on the drivers for some time.

Hulkenberg is just one piece of the puzzle and there are still rumours claiming Williams star Valtteri Bottas could be persuaded to join the team for the next campaign.

The 29-year-old's exit is sure to cause a massive shake-up in the transfer market with his spot at Force India now up for grabs, with several names now being touted.

Team principal Vijay Mallya says he could not stand in the way of Hulkenberg and the pair have departed on good terms, having produced some good results since working together.

"Everybody at Sahara Force India wishes Nico well as he embarks upon a different path in Formula One," he said. "Having spent five years with us, Nico has become a great friend and contributed a huge amount to the team's success.

"He's an outstanding driver, who has scored more points for this team than anybody else. While it's true we will miss Nico, we respect his decision to explore fresh opportunities and it would be wrong to stand in his way."
