McLaren deny Apple talks

McLaren have dismissed reports claiming they are in discussions with Apple over a potential deal.

Recent reports had suggested the Formula One outfit, who have been making gradual improvements this season, were in talks with Apple and a possible takeover could be on the cards.

The news came at a time when rumours are rife the technology company are looking into the possibility of developing a self-driving car and being able to work with McLaren would help.

However, the Woking-based team insist there are no on-going discussions although they did say there are regularly in contact with a "wide range of parties".

"We can confirm that McLaren is not in discussion with Apple in respect of any potential investment," a spokesman said. "As you would expect, the nature of our brand means we regularly have confidential conversations with a wide range of parties, but we keep them confidential."

The Apple reports come just a couple of weeks after US firm Liberty Media agreed to buy Formula 1 in a £6billion deal as the sport looks set to embark on a different path.
