Francis happy for cup distraction

Simon Francis says he would like Bournemouth to go far in the EFL Cup this season and does not see the competition as a distraction.

The Cherries will welcome Preston to the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday looking to secure their place in the last 16 of the League Cup, having seen off Morecambe in the last round.

While boss Eddie Howe is expected to make changes to his starting line-up for the game, Francis says those who do play will not be taking the game lightly as they look to go on a cup run.

The Bournemouth captain told the Daily Echo: "We'll be taking it very seriously. The manager showed us that when we played Morecambe in the last round.

"He put out a full-strength side with lads in the squad who hadn't been playing as much in the league and I’m sure he plans to do the same again. It’s good that we have a big squad and can afford to do that.

"We have some quality players waiting in the wings, players who have been on the bench in recent weeks and others coming back from injury. It will be an important game for us and we want to carry on our cup run."
