Abi Oyepitan picked up a silver medal when the 200m final finally got underway earlier this afternoon.
The English sprinter, who has suffered with major injury problems for many years, stormed round the bend but was unable to catch race winner Cydonie Mothersill.
It had been another tough season for Oyepitan but she clocked a time of 23.26 second to get her hands on a major international medal.
And while it was a good performance from her she couldn't get close to winner Mothersill, who won the Cayman Island's first ever gold, as was the class of the field.
Ad they came around the bend with 100m to go Mothersill moved away from the rest of the field and stopped the clock at 22.89 second to take the gold medal.
Speaking to the BBC after the race Oyepitan said: "It's amazing to get silver, but I wanted to have go at Cydonie. She's got legs but I haven't - maybe next year."
"This is the first winter's training I've had since 2004. I need a few winters behind me. Hopefully next year and 2012 will be good for me."
Joyce Maduaka was also in the race but she faded in the final meters and was piped to the bronze medal by Adrienne Power of Canada.
There was more silver success in the men's pole vault as Steven Lewis cleared 5.60m to take second place behind Olympic champion, and good friend Steve Hooker.
Hooker too had cleared 5.60m but took the gold on countback. It has been a troublesome summer for Lewis as he struggled to find his form when he switched to a new pole.
The English athlete chose to miss the European Championships in Barcelona earlier this summer as he tried to find some form - and has done so in fine style.
And there was more good news for England as Max Eaves vaulted himself to a bronze medal.
The heats of the 4x400 meters got underway this afternoon and England's men and women progressed through while Wales' men also qualified.
