The BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award will be awarded on Sunday night. With 10 superb contender vying for the public vote, Chris Mayer attempts to profile each nominee. Today is the turn of dar

There's nothing in the world of darts that Phil 'The Power' Taylor hasn't done in the 22 years he's been professional.

He's without doubt the face of the sport, that is so far ahead of anyone else that it's barely worth competing at times.

The Stoke born darts wizard further tightened his grasp on the PDC No.1 Spot with several tournament wins, and starting the year in tremendous fashion by claiming his 15th World Championship title. He beat Australian Simon Whitlock 7-3, averaging 104 in the final and finishing on a 131 checkout. It doesn't get much better than that.

Taylor regained the lucrative Premier League title to his already stocked trophy cabinet in similarly impressive ways. He hit 2 nine-dart finishes in the final against James Wade, the first time it had ever been done whilst televised.

Taylor also won the World Matchplay, beating his long-time rival Raymond Van Barneveld 18-12

Taylor remains incredibly professional in the sport and is always graceful in victory despite amassing over £1million of prize money in the PDC Order of Merit. With darts continuing popularity increases, will anyone topple The Power from the top of the tree? It seems unlikely yet.

Odds of winning - 7/1

Verdict - The popularity of darts has never been stronger, so Taylor can count upon a stong vote from the public. He may not be the most athletic in the contingent but to dominate a sport like he has takes a supreme amount of talent.
