With England failing yet again to beat the Germans in Football, the one sport in which England can usually guarantee Gold is athletics!

Over the weekend, the UK’s best athlete’s battled it out at the UK Championships to win gold and try to secure a place in the GB Team at the European Championships in Barcelona.

World Class athletes such as Phillips Idowu, Goldie Sayers, Dwain Chambers and Louise Hazel comment on their performance at the Champs and look ahead to the European Championships where their eyes will be firmly fixed on the medals.

It was another great performance from Dwain Chambers, who ran under ten seconds at the European team cup a couple of weeks ago, and he cemented himself at the british number one as he won his race in 10.14 seconds to cement his place on the plane to barcelona.

Martyn Rooney stormed to victory in the 400m as he equalled his season's best of 44.99 seconds and will be a real medal contender next month.

David Greene is another medal contender in the 400m hurdles as he clocked a time of 48.77 seconds as he defended his title in Birmingham.

Christian Malcolm rolled back the years as he won the 200m in a tilem of 20.78, however that time is not quick enough to take him to the European championships but he still has a couple of races to reach that standard.
