Chris Hoy believes that Great Britain's sprint team can break their own world record.

The team of Hoy, Jamie Staff and Jason Kenny clocked a time of 42.950 seconds, which was a new world record, in the heats at the Beijing Olympics - they went on to win gold.

But Hoy believes that the trio are more than capable of going faster and breaking their own world record.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph Hoy said: "We have the potential in our squad to go as fast, if not faster, than we did winning gold in Beijing when we broke the world record, but we have a way to go yet.

"There is work to be done and different combinations of riders to explore. The great thing though is that we are tinkering and striving for more from a position of real strength, with a team who are already world class and winning big medals against the best."

And while Hoy, Staff and Kenny brought home gold in Beijing Hoy admits that there is tough competition for places on the team.

"Man three is my preferred position, it's where I feel I can make the biggest impact and help GB to our quickest time, but we are still looking at all our many options.

"There are some quick younger riders coming through - David Daniell, Peter Mitchell and Philip Hindes - and you underestimate Ross Edgar at your peril."

Hoy had a great end to 2010 as he came home from the World Cup even in Melbourne with a couple of gold medals.
