Chris Hoy Talks Olympic Success

When Chris Hoy powered to victory at last year's Olympics he, along with the rest of the team, put British cycling on the map as they dominated in Beijing to become a true leading force in the sport.

The year that has followed has been a bit of a whirlwind as he picked up a knighthood for his achievement and the title of Sports Personality of the year.

I caught up with him to talk about how he's found all the attention and getting back to work.

-You are working with EA Sports for their new Active Personal Trainer release can you tell me a bit about it?

Absolutely it's basically a virtual personal trainer and it's a product designed for people who are intimidated about going to the gym or don't have the time to go to the gym, people like my sister who has just had a baby and now wants to get back in shape but can't leave the baby to go to the gym or for a run, to be able to go exercise in the home a convenient place this is perfect for that.

It's designed to start off at a very low level of intensity to a very high level of intensity so you can feel yourself getting fitter, you can measure your performance and see how you are progressing and it's a really great idea, it's a amazing people haven't thought of this before.

- Why did you decide to get involved with the launch?

Just because I'm very passionate about the product really i think it's a really good idea, my finance has had an ongoing problem with her back and her hips; she had a chronic injury from doing a bit of running an she really misses her running and hasn't done any for the best part of a year.

I got the software through and I've been struggling to get on it as she is getting stuck into it, there's a thirty day programme that you can do and she's more than half way through that already.

- There's a lot floating around about obesity at the moment and there's a disturbing fact that by 2050 90% of kids will be overweight as what need to be done to get kids active?

I just think that people just have to encourage their kids to do anything, it doesn't matter what it is, just to get active and make the most of their time and if they are keen on using their consoles this is far more healthy, it's not a game, but for kids it will seem a lot more fun.

That's the key things for kids fun and about enjoying themselves, again this is in a safe environment as parents may be worried about leaving their child in a park or where they can't see them.

- It's hard to believe that it's nearly 12 months since Beijing so what has the last twelve months been like you?

It has been a bizarre year to be honest with you it's been very very strange. There have been a whole host of things that on their own would have been a highlight that have just kind of added to the list of amazing things that have happened; the knighthood and the Sports Personality were the two big highlights.

But there have just been so many opportunities and I have been doing all of these things which is such a change from my normal life which is just getting up in the morning and having my breakfast, going to the gym, having my lunch, going to the track, coming home, going out on my bike, going to bead and starting over the next day.
