Chris Hoy is already dreaming of Olympic success in front of a home crowd in London as he began the first to ride around the velodrome at the Olympic Park.

Hoy lead the hugely successful Great British cycling team in Beijing, claiming thee golds, just two years ago and is hoping to repeat that success in two years time.

Speaking to Metro he said: You can already start to imagine what it would be like lining up in the Olympic final. As soon as you get in here, you can just sense it.

‘Knowing when we compete here 90 per cent of those in the crowd will be supporting us will be incredible and for the cyclists and fans it really will be the best venue of its kind in the world.

‘Having seen it I can now start daydreaming but it will be giving everyone extra motivation to train hard.

‘Not everyone gets the chance to compete in front of their own supporters and to do that will be very special.’

Yesterday marked exactly two years before the Olympic flame would be lit in London and Hoy was on hand to test the velodrome track for the first time.

And Hoy admits that he is glad that the velodrome is a major part of the Olympic park. ‘The venue at Beijing was a decent car journey away but here you really feel you’re part of everything,’ he added.

‘Just to be in the park, to be able to ride down to the venue is unusual but it’ll make us feel we’re a part of it all.

‘It’s important the home nation does well and I’m sure we will again here.’
