Dai Greene may only just have won his European gold for the 400m hurdles but the Welshman has already turned his attention to the Commonwealth Games.

Kicking off in October the Commonwealth Games are heading to Delhi and Greene is expecting a much tougher competition for the gold medal.

It was a British one-two as Greene was followed home by Rhys Williams but the champion knows that they won't have everything their own way in India.

Speaking to the BBC Greene said: "I fully expect the winning time might be a sub-48 - that's what it's going to take to win the gold medal in my mind.

"There are South Africans who have run 48s and 47s in the past and the Caribbean countries - there's a lot more strength in depth there in the Commonwealth than there is in Europe.

"There are more people running sub-49 and sub-48.5. There are some Jamaicans knocking out some great times so it will be a lot tougher there.

"I think I can go two or three-tenths faster at the most. It's just a case of getting it right on the day, really.

"With my event there are so many different variables that can go wrong, it's just a case of practice makes perfect and the more races I do, the more chances I'll get of getting a personal best.

"Hopefully I can go to the Commonwealth Games and produce a performance like I did on the weekend. That should bring home a medal, really. I'm basically just trying to prepare for that for the next 12 weeks."

With many of Britain's athletes skipping the Commonwealth Games this time around to prepare for the World Championships next year the tough competition from the likes of Felix Sanchez, Leford Green and LJ van Zyl it will be a world class field that Greene and Williams will face.
